Amid reports linking him with a possible return to FC Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain star Neymar has spoken clearly on his future plans during an interview with popular Brazilian YouTuber Casimiro.

The world’s most expensive player also revealed that he knew Lionel Messi’s next club before the Argentine told Catalan media, and touched on the failure experienced in a trio he formed with Messi and Kylian Mbappe at the Parc des Princes.

Neymar returned to PSG training this week after his 2022/2023 season was ended prematurely through injury.

Before the end of the campaign, it was already known that his close friend Messi, who was nearing free agency, would leave the club following a two-year tenure in the French capital.

On the evening Messi announced he would join Inter Miami, SPORT swiftly ran a report explaining that Neymar had offered himself to Barca and was willing to reduce his salary to make the move happen.

Blaugrana head coach Xavi Hernandez poured cold water on this when stressing to Gerard Romero that his former teammate wasn’t in his plans. Yet reports continued to emerge from Qatar explaining that PSG and Barca were negotiating a possible loan deal.

With L’Equipe previously reporting that the Ligue 1 champions were ready to put the 31-year-old on the market as well, Neymar’s future continues to be up in the air.

In the interview on Casimiro’s program entitled Que Papinho, however, Neymar attempted to put the rumors to bed by clearly stating his intentions.

Neymar confirmed to Casimiro that he hopes to play with his current employers next term. “I have a contract with PSG, no one has informed me of anything,” he said.

Asked if he was unsettled by constant reports linking him with moves away, Neymar answered: “I’m calm. Even though there isn’t a lot of love between the player and the fan, I will be there. With love or without love, but with Neymar,” he added.

As for Messi’s own transfer saga, Neymar confessed that he knew of the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner’s next stop before most.

“It was in the last few weeks. He was in doubt, then at the end he told me where he was going,” Neymar said.

“Messi has won everything already, his family has been greatly affected in these two years at PSG.

“I understand him, his family. He went to a country where he will be well received, to live a completely different life and his family will feel very good in Miami. It’s been a tough few years for us together, but I wish him all the best. [He’s] a fantastic guy who is a lot more off the field than on the field.”

While Neymar left Barca for PSG in 2017, Messi joined him there in 2021 when fleeing Camp Nou on a free transfer.

Before they had even kicked a collective ball together, the trio that was set to be formed by the pair and Kylian Mbappe was already being called the greatest of all time in a development that was puzzling for those that had seen the South Americans play together with Luis Suarez in the ‘MSN’ trident in the mid-2010s.

Though they sealed domestic honors, Messi, Neymar and Mbappe fell short on the continent in a failure that Neymar put down to “football stuff”.

“The Galacticos [at Real Madrid in the early 2000s] didn’t win the Champions League, so it’s part of the game.

“We had a very strong team. Me, Messi and Mbappe are three guys who are the best in the world, we know that, but unfortunately it didn’t fit, it wasn’t good for us.

“Obviously we wanted to win everything, we were together in the dressing room, but sometimes football isn’t right, [or] fair. It’s not the same as a cake recipe,” Neymar concluded.

Without a buyer as things stand then, Neymar looks set to start 2023/2024 for PSG who start the defense of their league title by hosting Lorient on August 13.
