We know for a fact that Spider-Man is one of the most popular Marvel Comics characters of all time and is quite possibly the most popular superhero there is. Of course, there have been a lot of Spider-Man movies that we saw from Marvel Studios and Sony. Then there’s the fact that Spider-Man: Lotus is a Spider-Man title that got a few fans excited. So, what is Spider-Man: Lotus, and is it part of the MCU or Sony?

Spider-Man: Lotus is a fan-made movie that tells the story of how Peter Parker decided to bury his secret superhero identity as Spider-Man after the death of his girlfriend. In that regard, this movie is neither from Marvel Studios nor from Sony due to the fact that it is a fan-made movie that isn’t related to those companies.

The fact that Spider-Man: Lotus was made by a fan is what makes it a completely non-canon storyline in the realm of live-action Spider-Man films. Of course, we know that only Sony (with the participation of Marvel Studios) has the license to create official Spider-Man films. So, with that said, let’s get to know more about Spider-Man: Lotus to understand what it is about.

The world cannot get enough of Spider-Man, who is arguably the most popular comic book character the world has ever seen. He has always been the poster boy for Marvel Comics, as even Stan Lee favors him more than almost any of the other Marvel characters. In that regard, we have seen a lot of Spider-Man films already.

While we often look at the MCU and Sony Spider-Man movies as some of the best superheroes we’ve seen in recent memory, it is interesting to note that a different Spider-Man movie actually earned a bit of attention from fans of the character. This movie is called Spider-Man: Lotus. But what exactly is Spider-Man: Lotus?

Spider-Man: Lotus released its trailer a year ago, as this movie allowed us to see a different side of Peter Parker’s story. Created and directed by Gavin J. Konop and was co-written by Konop, Sean Thomas Reid, and Warden Wayne.

The film, as mentioned, allows us to see a different side of the character in the sense that it follows a more psychological and dramatic storyline. This movie follows the events of Peter Parker’s life after the events of his girlfriend’s death. In that regard, he came to believe that being Spider-Man could actually be a curse instead of a blessing because the fact that he couldn’t save his girlfriend still haunts him. After all, what’s the purpose of being a superhero if you can’t even save the ones you love?

In that regard, Peter Parker thought about giving up his Spider-Man persona. But he ended up learning that a terminally ill child wants to meet Spider-Man before his death. And that was what made the hero decide that meeting this boy could be something worth his while.

It is possible that the movie actually tried to explore the psychology of Spider-Man and how tough it is to handle the responsibility of being a superhero. Lotus takes a good look at the human side of Spider-Man, despite the fact that the trailer also included action scenes that quite possibly involved the Green Goblin.

The thing about Spider-Man: Lotus, however, is that there is no exact release date for the project. That’s because we hardly know anything about it and how GJ Konop is handling the project. Nevertheless, what we do know is that the movie received backlash from the public, especially after some racist comments from one of the writers surfaced.

In that regard, there are a lot of people that think that the movie will never be released because it had already been canceled by the internet after Warden Wayne’s comments surfaced. But Konop did release a video that allowed him to explain their side of the story.

Konop obviously wanted to sort things out. “My initial reaction was to make a statement on Twitter, fulfill my responsibility in releasing a film that I have promised thousands of people, and de-platform myself from the internet,” Konop wrote in the film’s description. “However, in the midst of my faults, a series of misconceptions and rumors have harmed the lives of my crew members who have worked tirelessly to deliver a meaningful story about hope, growth, and redemption.”

As such, the movie’s release is actually in jeopardy, especially because of the things that Wayne said when he was younger. That is why some of the fans believe that it might never see a release date at all. Wayne, of course, clarified the story as well.

“Years ago, when I was in high school, I used to say terrible things. I used offensive language, often homophobic or racially insensitive, casually or in-jokes. I am sorry, and I’m ashamed.”

The internet has basically canceled the project, and there are reports that some of the supporters of the movie have also pulled out. That’s because the internet is a dangerous place that can basically destroy any project that basically relies on its fans for marketing. As such, there is a chance that Spider-Man: Lotus will never be released.

Was Spider-Man: Lotus Part Of The MCU?

It is important to take note that Spider-Man: Lotus is completely made by fans and doesn’t have anything to do with any of the companies that have released their own Spider-Man movies. That means that Spider-Man: Lotus is neither part of the MCU nor supported by Sony.

Of course, we know that Sony has the license over anything related to Spider-Man movies, as this company has had that right since the release of the original Spider-Man trilogy movies starring Tobey Maguire. That means that any Spider-Man movie that was made for the purpose of profiting should go through Sony. And we do know that Sony and Marvel Studios both work together to produce the Spider-Man movies that are part of the MCU.

All that said, Spider-Man: Lotus is completely non-canon and has no storylines that are related to the movies that have already been released. The plot also seems to be quite original and doesn’t have any comic book counterpart. As such, the entire storyline and the production were completely handled by fans.
