Some footage has been released from a Spider-Man fan film titled Spider-Man: Lotus, and this thing is incredibly impressive and it would have made an awesome movie! The visual effects work done on the film is top-notch, especially for a fan film!
However, the project was canceled due to some wildly racist comments allegedly made by both the director Gavin J. Konop and Peter Parker actor Warden Wayne. These comments were vile, and they made the rounds online in the form of leaked DMs and that’s when everything fell apart.
The writer and director of Spider-Man: Lotus recently addressed the controversies surrounding his fan film in a YouTube video saying: “My initial reaction was to make a statement on Twitter, fulfill my responsibility in releasing a film that I have promised thousands of people, and de-platform myself from the internet. However, in the midst of my faults, a series of misconceptions and rumors have harmed the lives of my crew members who have worked tirelessly to deliver a meaningful story about hope, growth, and redemption.”
Konop apologized in the video and addressed what he called “fake screenshots.” He also discussed a situation involving the film’s storyboards, as well as the recent news that the VFX artists who worked on the film had quit. “There were a lot of rumors going around that I had abandoned the movie, took the crowd-funded money and took off. But, I’m here to tell you that could not be further from the truth. That’s never been a consideration of mine, it’s nothing I’ve even remotely thought about. And anybody who tells you the movie’s not coming out is completely wrong. The movie will be released at all costs.”
I included the creator’s video below the new footage of Spider-Man in action. Regardless of the shit-storm that this project and the director have found themselves in, the footage is really freakin’ cool! It’s a shame how everything played out and turn into a complete nightmare.
