- Olivia Rodrigo is a super popular singer-songwriter right now and she was just named “Woman of the Year” by Billboard in 2022.
- Meet three of her exes, one of whom she recently reunited with on the red carpet.
- Here’s everything to know about her dating life, and the ex who likely inspired her hit album, Sour Prom.
You’ve probably heard of Olivia Rodrigo by now. You know, the Disney darling who got her driver’s license, and set the charts aflame with her breakout breakup song about it, and the album SOUR that it appeared on?
If you have not heard of Olivia, please allow this SOUR-head (if that’s not already clear, now it is) to give you a quick debrief. Olivia, 19, is the star of Disney’s clunkiest titled show of all time: High School Musical: The Musical: The Series. She first made waves with the breakup song space when she posted a TikTok featuring “All I Want,” a song from HSMTMTS that her character wrote about her love interest.

A few months later, she dropped “drivers license,” which quickly became the breakup anthem of the moment when it took off on social media for Olivia’s vulnerable Taylor Swift-esque lyrics and her vocal talents.
The song was remastered and released to the masses in January 2021 just in time for the great Kimye split. If your latest track has Kim Kardashian emo-posting it to her IG stories you know you’re on to something.
And, it would seem the music world would agree. Olivia could make history at the Grammy Awards on Sunday, as she is poised to sweep the Big Four categories—album, record, and song of the year, plus best new artist. If she succeeds, she’ll be the third artist in Grammy history to do so. Billie Eilish accomplished this feat in 2020, and before her Christopher Cross in 1981.
But back to Olivia.
Who is “drivers license” about? Has she recovered in love? Here’s an explainer of Olivia’s dating life—and epic rise to fame.
Ethan Wacker (2018)

Ethan was, based on my very best internet sleuthing, Olivia’s first love. They met on the Disney Channel series Bizaardvark and started dating in July 2018, according to Hollywood Life.
They dated for about a year, until August 2019 when they each did an Instagram wipe out of each other…a sure sign of any breakup. While it was rumored Driver’s License was about Ethan, he shot those down quickly.
“Nope, I treated her well,” he wrote on TikTok at the time, according to Hollywood Life.
Joshua Bassett (2020)

Olivia and Joshua played love interests in the aforementioned HSMTMTS (his character was the focus of “All I Want” mentioned above). There must be something in the water at East High. Though they never confirmed their relationship, eagle-eyed fans suspected the pair were dating. And, it’s believed that the single “drivers license” was about Joshua breaking up with Olivia to date another Disney Channel star Sabrina Carpenter.
May I point you to exhibit A, the lyrics: “You’re probably with that blonde girl / Who always made me doubt She’s so much older than me / She’s everything I’m insecure about.”
And exhibit B, Joshua teaches Olivia how to drive on their IG stories, which have sadly been lost to time.
“I totally understand people’s curiosity with the specifics of who the song’s about and what it’s about, but to me, that’s really the least important part of the song. It’s resonating with people because of how emotional it is, and I think everything else is not important,” Olivia said, though she didn’t explicitly say who the song was about.
After Olivia popped off, the other two players in this teenage triad released their own songs: “Skin” by Sabrina and Joshua’s “Lie Lie Lie” and “Only a Matter of Time.”
Again, all parties denied their songs seemingly written about the same love triangle were about each other. And yet…take a look at Joshua’s “Only a Matter of Time” lyrics, which I present as Exhibit C: “Time to tell the world that you’ve been lyin’ on my name / Doin’ what you want and think you’re gonna get away.”
“I’m sure that you’re hurting inside / But why would you makе your pain mine? / You’re makin’ me pay for your crimes.”
“You can’t tear me down and act like I will just forget.”
“You can say what you like / Doesn’t mean that you’re right / Are you glad you got that out? / Do you feel better now?”
I rest my case.
But apparently, these ex-lovers have left the drama and angst in the past. They recently reunited at the High School Musical: The Musical: The Series season 3 premiere and posed for photos together. And they defs look amicable.
Fans were shocked by the casual reunion. “Never in a million f*cking years would i have predicted an olivia rodrigo and joshua bassett pic together,” one user tweeted, per Page Six.
Welp. Here it is:

Adam Faze (2021)
Olivia confirmed her romance with producer Adam Faze in July 2021, after they were photographed kissing in Los Angeles. But interested parties first spotted the couple out together a month earlier at the Space Jam 2 premiere. Ah, to be young and in love in Hollywood.
“They were really cute together and weren’t trying to hide their affection at all,” a source told Page Six. The pair met through friends in the industry, according to reports.
By the end of the year, Page Six reported Adam was moving from L.A. to New York, and noticed that Olivia unfollowed him.

Rodrigo then touched on break-up advice in an interview with British Vogue.
“Besides cutting off all contact, I think it’s important to not only forgive them but forgive yourself for letting everything happen,” she said. “That’s what I’ve learned.”
Zack Bia (2022)
There’s a new man in Olivia’s life now. As of June 21, the ‘ship was declared official by People. (FWIW: The couple hasn’t confirmed the news themselves yet.)
Zack is a 26-year-old music exec, DJ, and co-owner of Delilah, a restaurant and hotspot in L.A. He’s also a bit of a ghost online, so there’s not a whole lot out there about him. But here’s a pic of him on his birthday back in June:
Apparently this one is the real deal. “They’ve been dating since the Super Bowl,” a source told People. “They really like each other.”
